For most of my life, I was an emotional wreck.
From my teenage years well into my 30s, my life was a revolving door of heartbreak, disasters, sudden injuries, and toxic relationships. I was sensitive, spiritually curious, and constantly on edge—reacting to every hardship like it was the end of the world.
I was also desperate for hope.
A Magnet for Chaos
Some people say bad luck comes in waves. For me, it felt like a lifestyle.
One month it was an injury that left me bedridden. The next it was betrayal by someone I loved. If there was a way for things to go wrong, it seemed they would. I felt cursed, unstable, and deeply ashamed that I couldn’t seem to “fix” my life.
Like many spiritual seekers, I turned to the New Age. And for a time, it seemed to help.
Praying with the Law of Attraction
When I discovered the law of attraction, it felt like I had finally found the secret formula to control my life. I would meditate, journal, and repeat affirmations like mantras:
“I am attracting abundance.”
“I am healed.”
“Everything is working out for me.”
And sometimes it did work. The job would come through. The check would arrive. The person would text back.
But behind it all was a growing unease. If the outcomes didn’t appear fast enough, I’d spiral. If they did, I’d cling to them and still feel empty. The peace never lasted.
Something was missing.
Discovering the Deception
Looking back, I see how the law of attraction mimicked real prayer, but stripped it of its power. It made me the god of my universe. It taught me to manifest outcomes instead of surrendering to the will of a loving Father.
I was speaking into the void, hoping the universe would rearrange for me. But I never felt held. I never felt known.
Then, in 2020, everything changed.
The Day I Met Jesus
In a moment of desperation, I cried out, not to the universe, but to Jesus.
I had nothing left. No more affirmations. No more crystal grids. No more self-will.
And He met me.
Not with lightning bolts or neon signs. But with a presence so deep and loving, I knew I was standing in the truth for the first time in my life.
I fell to my knees. I repented. I wept. I gave Him everything.
And that’s when my real prayer life began.
The Power of Praying to Jesus
Unlike manifestation, prayer is not about demanding what you want.
It’s about drawing close to the God who loves you.
It’s about asking, surrendering, listening, and trusting—even when the answers don’t come immediately. Especially then.
My prayers began to sound more like:
“Lord, I need Your wisdom.”
“Jesus, I trust You with this situation.”
“Holy Spirit, strengthen me.”
“Father, thank You for hearing me, even when it hurts.”
Some prayers were answered in days. Others took months. Some are still unfolding.
But what changed was me.
Pray Without Ceasing: What It Actually Means
1 Thessalonians 5:17 says:
“Pray without ceasing.”
At first, that sounded impossible. But I’ve come to understand it not as praying all day with your eyes closed, but as living in ongoing conversation with God.
It’s waking up and saying, “Good morning, Lord.”
It’s whispering thanks before a tough phone call.
It’s crying out for help in traffic or at the doctor’s office.
It’s worshiping in the kitchen.
It’s turning your thoughts into prayers.
Praying Through the Pain
Not every prayer gets answered the way I want. There are still hard seasons. Still losses. Still unanswered questions.
But now I don’t fall apart. I fall into faith.
When a prayer isn’t answered, I don’t give up—I pray more.
I pray for:
- More strength
- More grace
- More wisdom
- More peace
And I thank God in advance—because I know He’s working even when I can’t see it.
How My Life Has Changed Through Prayer
Since I began praying in Jesus’ name, I’ve seen:
- Deep emotional healing from past trauma
- Restored relationships with family
- Protection in dangerous situations
- Provision in seasons of need
- Unexplainable peace during chaos
And I’ve also seen growth in the unseen places:
- I’ve become more patient.
- I’ve learned to forgive.
- I’ve developed deeper discernment.
- I’ve become anchored in joy.

Why Prayer Is the Foundation of Everything
Prayer is not an emergency button. It’s not a wishlist. It’s not a performance.
Prayer is the foundation of every relationship with God.
It’s how we fight our battles.
It’s how we stay steady.
It’s how we grow strong.
Even Jesus prayed constantly. If the Son of God needed prayer, how much more do we?
Encouragement for You
If you’ve been struggling with:
- Chaos and instability
- Anxiety and fear
- Disappointment from unanswered desires
- Wounds from past spiritual deception
I want you to know: You are not alone.
You don’t need to be perfect to pray. You don’t need eloquent words. You just need a surrendered heart.
Start by saying:
“Jesus, here’s my heart. Teach me how to pray.”
That one sentence can change everything.
Scriptures That Shaped My Prayer Life
Here are a few that have carried me through the hardest times:
- Romans 12:12 – “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
- Philippians 4:6 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
- Psalm 34:17 – “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.”
- Mark 11:24 – “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
- 1 Thessalonians 5:17 – “Pray without ceasing.”
Final Thoughts: Keep Praying
No matter where you are right now, there’s one thing I want to say: Don’t stop praying.
Even when it’s quiet.
Even when it’s hard.
Even when it seems like nothing is changing.
Because prayer is not about outcomes.
It’s about connection.
And the more you pray, the more you’ll see:
- God hears you.
- God is for you.
- And God is near.
